BIOGRAPHY

Mig Payawal was born and raised in the Philippines, where he attended high school and began his university courses. He later journeyed to Southern California for a “restart” of his education at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa. While there, Mig’s interest in the sciences blossomed, which led him to work as a student tutor on campus for Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, and Microbiology courses.

This passion for interpersonal connection continued as Mig got to know his medical radiography cohort during the start of the program. He did well in the more difficult courses and created social media connections to try to help his peers. Videos and livestreams were the tools he used to support his classmates, facilitating their study during the tough, first-quarter start. With his blazing passion for science and a gift for helping others, Mig continues to mentor fellow students.

Mig is a member of the National Honor Society, Lambda Nu, due to his outstanding academic performance in the radiography program. What it takes to be a shining star in the classroom and clinic, Mig shows daily with his singular combination of leadership skills and a can-do attitude.

This segment from his application speaks volumes on who Mig is and why he was selected: “I love keeping the environment light-hearted between myself and anyone that I will be working with, so that each encounter is an enjoyable experience. I am genuinely interested in knowing people and being someone they can trust and rely on.”

The Radiation Technology department is proud to present the 2021 Rising Star Award to Mig Payawal.
