BIOGRAPHY
Ryan Ziegler is a husband of 13 years, the father of 3 young children, a class of 2020 Master of Physician Assistant graduate, and a Special Forces Medical Sergeant with the California National Guard. In his past, Ryan led US and foreign troops in combat as well as ran a successful start-up business.
During his enrollment at Loma Linda University, Ryan answered the call of the California Governor and responded to the Los Angeles riots. Now he will serve his new community in Flagstaff, AZ, and bring Loma Linda University values along with him. A rotation with cardiothoracic surgery, one of his clinical year fieldwork positions, gave Ryan an edge for the highly competitive position he’s beginning as an orthopedic spine PA with Flagstaff Bone and Joint.
A measure of Ryan’s ingenuity is the medical training device he designed that’s been submitted for patent. This device will reduce seal failure when using a bag-valve-mask device, a common ventilation and resuscitation tool.
Ryan has dealt with and understands many of the issues currently faced by our veterans when it comes to education and medical care. As a student, Ryan started the Loma Linda University Veteran and Military club. He worked to improve veteran outreach, establish a mentorship program, and open lines of communication between staff, students, and veterans in their midst. Now, as a graduate, Ryan is a board member of the Veteran Education Project in Washington DC, where he lobbies on behalf of student veterans tackling a variety of unique issues.
